Nioh, souls-like game with samurai and ninja (Review)

Image
Environment The game is mostly set in a fantasy version of Feudal Japan, with demons and monsters roaming everywhere, the game takes on a dark and eerie vibe, not unlike the SoulsBorne games, and it does a very good job of delivering the dark beauty of the world that it is in. The ambiance is nice and enemies always seem to fit right into the maps, making it an enjoyable game to walk around in....when you're not being killed by the monsters, lol.  Gameplay Nioh is definitely a content packed game with a variety of weapons types, skill trees and guardian spirits that you can choose from to cater to your playstyle. In terms of weapons, there are swords, dual swords, axes, spears, Kusarigama, Odachi and Tonfa, all of them have their unique skill trees and provide you with quite a different playstyle, but from what I've played, I feel like sword is the most versatile for me. The mechanics I think were great are the Ninja skills and Onmyo skils, Ninja skills are tru...

Monster Hunter World Iceborne (tl;dr review)

Image
Pros: +Stunning Graphics +Vibrant and lively environment +Loads of cool monsters to fight +Customizable Palico companion  +Deep and varied combat system Cons: -Quite a huge learning curve for newbies -Crafting equipment requires a lot of grinding  Graphics: 9/10 Gameplay: 9/10 Overall: 9/10 Monster Hunter: World is a game that's actually full of life, be it the maps, the content or the player base, a true masterpiece of recent years. Definitely a must have for gamers everywhere. Full review here

Be a hunter of monsters in Monster Hunter: World! (Review)

Image
Environment Monster Hunter: World is one of the most beautiful games I've seen in recent years, all of the different maps always feel so vibrant and alive when you walk around in them, the Iceborne expansion does not disappoint in this aspect of the game, the icy map Hoarfrost Reach is a magnificent addition to the New World. One can seriously get lost in the maps themselves and spend hours and hours just exploring and going around collecting materials and fishing! Fishing is definitely one of my favorite side activity to do in games, and it is in MHW, which makes me appreciate the game all the more. Not to mention the music, the music really puts you in the right mood at all times, relaxing music for exploration and upbeat music for battle! Gameplay Iceborne did not only bring in new monsters for Hoarfrost Reach, but also quite a few for the other existing maps as well, a total of 27 new, returning, sub-species and variants are added to original number of 31 ...

Horizon Zero Dawn (tl;dr review)

Image
Pros +Stunning graphics +Interesting world and good variety of biomes +Cool mech animals + Good variety of weapons Cons -Unsatisfying story  -Immense difficulty spikes -Uninspired skill tree Graphics: 9/10 Gameplay: 7/10 Overall: 7.5/10 I believe this is the best a mediocre game can get, real close, but miss the mark of a great game by a little bit, Horizon Zero Dawn is the kind of game I'd get if I had no better games to play, but even then, it would be a game worth 10-20 hours of play time. Horizon Zero Dawn, a most stunning world to explore! (Review)

Image
Environment The game's set in a post-apocalypse earth where mech animals roam the land and metallic  ruins and abandoned buildings litter the map, and the humans set back to a more primitive time, using bows and spears as their main weapons. The map is a pretty wondrous place to explore, with a decent variety of biomes for you to walk/ride around in, and it is always a pleasant surprise to encounter newer species of mech animal. Not to mention how beautiful it always seems to look, no matter where you go, there's always gonna be a photo-worthy view! A beautiful and mysterious place that intrigues you to move forward the more you explore.  Gameplay Honestly. the game is harder than I initially thought it would be. I didn't expect to hit a speed bump on the "normal" difficulty, but I did, I died several times to the more aggressive mechs like the Snapmaws and the Bellowbacks, I swear, the Bellowbacks have such deceptive looks, they look damn weak, but t...

BanG Dream! Girls Band Party! (mobile tl;dr review)

Image
Pros +Engaging story lines +Easy to learn gameplay +Interesting characters Cons -Energy system that limits playtime -Need to spend money if you want cosmetic items Graphics: 8/10 Gameplay: 8/10 Overall: 8/10 A mobile game with a surprising amount of production quality, you can see the effort the producers put in, and the VAs, the vast amount of voiced  dialogues and songs are quite impressive for a game that is completely free.  See the full review here Looking for a gaming phone to play on?  Here's a great deal from Octaplus!  Get around 1.5% cashback for a  Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro

BanG Dream! Girls Band Party! A magical rhythm game for mobile! (Mobile game review)

Image
Environment/ General feel The game allows you to explore several small maps where the various band members will hang out and talk, you can tap on them to listen to a variety of casual conversations to listen to. This is one of my favorite feature in this game, you can get a better feel of the band member's personality and relationships with one another.  The characters from the various bands all have their individual charm that keeps you playing to know more about their story! My personal favorite so far is definitely the carefree and air-headed "Hello, Happy World!", yes, the band's name is literally Hello, Happy World! The dynamic of 3 extremely air-headed girls and a DJ in a bear costume that's the voice of reason in the band, yes, the girl in the bear costume Deejay-ing is the logical and practical one! Their story line never fails to bring a smile to my face.   Gameplay The gamplay itself is a simple tapping rhythm game with 7 keys,...

Digimon World: Next Order (tl;dr review)

Image
Pros: + A huge variety of Digimon to breed + Decently sized map with different variety of environments  + ExE Digivolutions!! Cons: -Extremely grind oriented -Digimons die after a certain age -Pretty hard to get specific digivolutions  Graphics: 7/10 Gameplay: 6/10 Overall: 7/10 This is definitely a game made for Digimon fans, as I myself would’ve never even looked at such a game if not for my beloved Digimon, sure it has its moments, like the ExE evolutions I mentioned, but it is simply buried under too much tediousness to make this a game I’d replay. Definitely only get this game if you’re a Digimon fan, because it features over 200 Digimon. Take a look at the full review here

Breed your own Digi-buddies in Digimon World: Next Order! (Review)

Image
Environment The map of the game is actually pretty big, you can travel to different areas filled with they very own personality and types of different Digimon. But although there are quite a lot of different areas that you can go to, none of them actually strike me as particularly memorable, although, I was quite invested in the town area where you train your Digimon, feed them and collect agricultural resources. I was really excited when the place transformed from a small bare-bones village into a rather magnificent town! Although the graphics can seem a bit dated, the Digimon themselves still look magnificent to me.  Gameplay The gameplay is solely focused on the breeding of your Digimon partners, in this game, you get to have 2 partners to follow you around, you can get them up from their baby forms right up to their mega forms, and you’ll have to pay attention while training them so that you’ll get the digivolution that you ...

DMC 5 (tl;dr review)

Image
Pros +Incredible combat +Beautiful graphics +Great characters (Dante and V) Cons - Story was mediocre, especially the ending - Platforming (it's not fun) Graphics: 9/10 Gameplay: 9/10 Overall: 9/10 Story aside, this is still one of the best games I've played so far. Definitely worth every penny. Get it if you really like actions games or hack & slash games. Get it on Steam  here Full Review here

DMC is still stylish as ever in DMC 5! (Review)

Image
Environment The game is set in London, a London that's ravaged by demons, despite that, the maps still managed to draw my attention from time to time, the city that's completely unrecognizable in places where demonic goo, tentacles and roots, the places do look marvelous and menacing at the same time, truly a fitting map for DMC 5  Gameplay The gameplay is going to be separated into 3 parts, the parts that you play as the 3 main characters of the game, Nero, Dante and V, they all have very distinctive playstyles which may affect your experience in the game.  First let's look at Nero , the first one you get to use, DMC 5 changed Nero to have a slightly more varied playstyle, by equipping him with a plethora of different "Devil Breakers" since his loss of his original demonic arm, the "Devil Bringer". While I do agree that the Devil Breakers are a breath of fresh are for Nero's rather monotonic gameplay back in DMC 4, I do ...

Vampyr (tl;dr review)

Image
Pros: + Immersive Story + Choices have significant impact on NPC + Interesting interactions with NPC + Voiceover quite good, especially for the main character Cons: - Bland and clunky combat - Slightly dated graphics - Travelling around map can be a pain sometimes Gameplay: 9/10 Graphics: 7/10 Overall: 8/10 An extremely solid game for story lovers, the story will most likely keep you hooked until the end, but for action game fans, this is probably a rather subpar game. So get it for the story, not the combat. See the full review:  https://lykegaming.blogspot.com/2019/09/save-london-or-plunge-it-into-chaos-be.html

Ryse: Son of Rome (tl;dr review)

Image
Pros +Great graphics +Extremely satisfying combat  +Easy to play and master Cons -Linear gameplay -Very short playtime  -Lacks enemy variety  -Story not very engaging Graphics: 8/10 Gameplay: 7/10 Overall: 7/10 A short and simple hack & slash game, if you’re looking for great variety and content, this game is not gonna be the one, but if you just want to indulge in mindless combat and executions, this game is absolutely a good one to pick up.

Just Cause 3 (tl;dr review)

Image
Pros +High level of freedom +Wide variety of weapons +Satisfying to liberate settlements and bases +Pretty interesting story +Likable cast of characters Cons -Pretty repetitive gameplay -Limited gunfight options (No Melee attacks and cover shooting etc) -Water areas are lack-luster without DLC Graphics: 8/10 - A huge and vibrant world, but the water and ground graphics can seem very basic at times. Gameplay: 8/10  - A game with high level of freedom, but the limited gunfight options could be improved on. Overall: 8/10  Overall, this is a pretty solid game that should keep you entertained until the end of the game, which is at least going to be 20+ hours! Ryse: Son of Rome, Play as a Roman Soldier! (Review)

Image
Ryse: Son of Rome, Play as a Roman Soldier!   Ryse: Son of Rome is a hack & slash game where you play as a Roman soldier, it is pretty story-focused and linear, but the story could be quite confusing as it is told, and there really isn’t much that will stick as the story goes. So, it is actually a pretty bare bones game, not gonna be worth It at the full price, but at its current price, it is definitely worth a buy. Environment The game is very linear, so there’s actually not many places you can go to in-game, but the places that do get to walk around in looks very nice, especially right at the very start, where you are put into a crazy warzone. It just looks so overwhelmingly nice, and the parts where you run around a city killing people, yeah, the game looks very nice, it is one of its main selling points. Gameplay The gameplay itself is centered on hacking and slashing, there is little to no exploration in-game, or anything else, other than the combat, but ...

Save London or plunge it into chaos, be the Vampyr. (Review)

Image
In Vampyr, you play as Jonathan Reid, a doctor and newborn vampire, bewildered and hunted down, you run and hide from your adversaries while trying to look for answers and for a place to stay. But after you got away and settled down in a hospital, that’s when things start to unfold, as you get deeper into mysteries surrounding the city of London, you’ll need to make a choice, Save the people or plunge them further into darkness. Environment The game is set in London, early 20 th century, there is a rapidly spreading epidemic, wars on the frontline, and weird dangerous men roam the streets, nowhere is safe for the citizens of London. As a vampire, Jonathan can only be up and about in the night, and the game crafts a perfectly desolate and eerie city, with great background sounds and music, there’s always a sense of tension and mystery on the streets, which is great. The ambience is great, but there is one thing I do not like about how the environment is designed...
