BanG Dream! Girls Band Party! A magical rhythm game for mobile! (Mobile game review)
The game allows you to explore several small maps where the various band members will hang out and talk, you can tap on them to listen to a variety of casual conversations to listen to. This is one of my favorite feature in this game, you can get a better feel of the band member's personality and relationships with one another.
The characters from the various bands all have their individual charm that keeps you playing to know more about their story! My personal favorite so far is definitely the carefree and air-headed "Hello, Happy World!", yes, the band's name is literally Hello, Happy World! The dynamic of 3 extremely air-headed girls and a DJ in a bear costume that's the voice of reason in the band, yes, the girl in the bear costume Deejay-ing is the logical and practical one! Their story line never fails to bring a smile to my face.
Gameplay
The gamplay itself is a simple tapping rhythm game with 7 keys, but that is not the main attraction for the game, it's the songs available that makes or breaks a rhythm game in my opinion. I feel that the songs here are pretty good, there are original songs sang by the VAs of the bands in the game, there are also covers of iconic songs such as "Butter-Fly" of Digimon or "Guren No Yumiya" of Attack on Titans. I especially like the songs from the band "Roselia", They have quite the powerful performance on their songs.
You get to progress through the main story and the individual bands' story in the game, I've gotta say, as mentioned above, the story really got me hooked, I played for hours on end just to unlock the next piece of story for Hello! Happy World! mostly but the others have quite enjoyable stories as well.
But there is a gripe I have with the game and that is the score rank, you can't actually get a high rank unless your characters are higher leveled. And yes, each and every band member is individual when playing, you can mix them up however you wish, that doesn't affect the story, just the score.
Similar to most of the Japanese games on the market, there is a Gacha system where you can attempt to roll for rarer variations of the band members, there are also frequently events with their unique event stories that comes with special limited gacha characters. Though I generally do not like spending money on microtransactions, I feel like the ones I get for free are rather good enough for me, and these gacha characters, although they do impact your rank score, do not actually impact your enjoyment of the game much in other aspects.
Story
The stories are, for most parts, pretty simple and straight forward, but the characters' personalities truly shine when you get these simple story lines, I mostly get the urge to play more of the story because I really love to see the interactions between the Hello, Happy World! band members, it is really addictive!
As for general plot lines, the band stories are basically how they came to be and how they become better as a band, while the main story focuses on the live performances that they take part in.

Graphics: 8/10
Gameplay: 8/10
Overall: 8/10
A mobile game with a surprising amount of production quality, you can see the effort the producers put in, and the VAs, the vast amount of voiced dialogues and songs are quite impressive for a game that is completely free.
