Breed your own Digi-buddies in Digimon World: Next Order! (Review)

Environment
The map of the game is actually pretty big, you can travel to different areas filled with they very own personality and types of different Digimon. But although there are quite a lot of different areas that you can go to, none of them actually strike me as particularly memorable, although, I was quite invested in the town area where you train your Digimon, feed them and collect agricultural resources. I was really excited when the place transformed from a small bare-bones village into a rather magnificent town! Although the graphics can seem a bit dated, the Digimon themselves still look magnificent to me.

Gameplay
The gameplay is solely focused on the breeding of your Digimon partners, in this game, you get to have 2 partners to follow you around, you can get them up from their baby forms right up to their mega forms, and you’ll have to pay attention while training them so that you’ll get the digivolution that you desire, which can be quite a drag at times, which was why I eventually just went with fate and accepted whichever forms I was given.

One of my favourite parts of the game that gets me excited all the way through the game is the ExE evolution mechanic, it is a evolution that is even beyond mega, it has some conditions that you need to clear before being able to use it, but the moment it happens, it is just too  satisfying and I couldn’t get enough of it! There’s even a small chance that, when you lose a fight, you’ll trigger an ExE evolution, that is just one of the most epic moments you’ll experience in this game! It gets me so pumped every time it happens, because it means I’ll be coming back to knock whoever defeated me into the dust.

Generally the game requires quite a lot of grinding and has quite a bit of down time, especially later in the game, when your enemies are getting very powerful and your mega level Digimon dies, yes, the Digimon will die after a certain amount of time, and you’ll need to train a new baby Digimon all over again, that is arguably one of the most infuriating  mechanics in the game, especially later in the game when you’ll definitely need a mega to do the fighting.

Story
If you’re playing this game for the story, I’d advise against it. The main selling point of the game is the breeding of Digimon, the story is a very generic “Digi-destined saves the Digital world from impending doom” kinda flow. I wasn’t really invested in the story itself as training my Digimon partners took up all my focus. Although, some familiar faces like Rina and Merei are welcome additions to people who've played Digimon Cyber Slueth before starting this game.

Conclusion/Summary

Pros:
+ A huge variety of Digimon to breed
+ Decently sized map with different variety of environments
+ ExE Digivolutions!!

Cons:
-Extremely grind oriented
-Digimons die after a certain age
-Pretty hard to get specific digivolutions
Graphics: 7/10
Gameplay: 6/10
Overall: 7/10
This is definitely a game made for Digimon fans, as I myself would’ve never even looked at such a game if not for my beloved Digimon, sure it has its moments, like the ExE evolutions I mentioned, but it is simply buried under too much tediousness to make this a game I’d replay. Definitely only get this game if you’re a Digimon fan, because it features over 200 Digimon.
